A workshop on cyber security for Department of Defence was organised by Department Defence Production, MoD. It was inaugurated by Defence Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. The framework is in line with guidelines for organisations to target the area of cyber security and identify improvements in the area.  Joint Secretary and Chief Information Security Officer of DDP is Dr Amit Sahai.

The govt will set up the country’s biggest data centre in Bhopal with a capacity to host 5 lakh servers. The data centre will be set up by the National Informatics Centre and will be 5th National Data Centre (NDC) after Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Hyderabad & Pune. These NDC host government websites, services and applications. The government also expanded BPO scheme to 1 lakh seats from 48,000 seats

SAARC Development Fund launches a social enterprise development programme (SEDP) to fund 80 entities annually across eight-member states. SDF was established in April 2010 and its council comprises finance ministers of these eight SAARC countries.The SDF CEO is Sunil Motiwal SDF has already committed $73.74 million for social window projects out of which it has disbursed $47 million.

President Ram Nath Kovind approved the imposition of governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir, a day after the BJP pulled out of its alliance with the People Democratic Party’s (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir. Following the President’s approval, governor NN Vohra will be presiding over the state. He’s doing do for the fourth time, having overseen governor’s rule in 2008, 2015 and 2016.

Housing loans of up to Rs 35 lakh, for dwellings costing less than Rs 45 lakh, will be treated as priority sector lending (PSL) to give a fillip to the low-cost segment, the Reserve Bank said on 19th June. PSL loans are relatively cheaper than the market interest rate. Currently, loans to individuals for up to Rs 28 lakh in metropolitan centers and Rs 20 lakh in other centers, can be classified under priority sector which would be revised to Rs 35 lakh in metropolitan centers, and Rs 25 lakh in other centers with dwelling cost less than Rs 45 and 30 lakh respectively. The RBI notification further said that the existing family income limit of Rs 2 lakh per annum for loans to housing projects for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low Income Groups (LIG) stands revised to Rs 3 lakh per annum and Rs 6 lakh per annum, respectively.

One97 Communications on 19th June said Rama Subramaniam Gandhi, former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as an adviser to Paytm. Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder, and CEO, Paytm. Gandhi will bring to the company his years of knowledge and experience on payment systems, regulations, compliance and corporate governance, said the company in a release.

The second tranche of Bharat 22 exchange traded fund (ETF) opened on 19th June which will help the government to raise up to Rs 8,400 crore from the markets comprising shares of 22 companies. The issue will open for other institutional and retail investors the next day. The ETF Follow-on Fund Offer (FFO) will remain open till June 22. The investors would get a 2.5 percent discount over the issue price.

India’s second largest software services company Infosys on 19th June said it has set up a Digital Centre of Excellence in Marseille to strengthen its footprint in France. With an initial capacity of 60 employees, the center aims to attract and train talent in new digital technologies to meet increasing demand from clients, Infosys said in a statement.

Anukreethy Vas, a 19-year-old Tamil Nadu college student, has been crowned Femina Miss India 2018 in a grand ceremony in Mumbai. Front of a judges panel that included Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, who awarded Anukreethy Vas her crown. Meenakshi Chaudhary from Haryana was the first runner-up while Shreya Rao Kamavarapu from Andhra Pradesh secured the second runner-up position.

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has become the richest man in the world with a net wealth of $141.9 billion, the Forbes World’s Billionaires list showed on 18th June. Bezos’ wealth has grown more than $5 billion since June 1 to beat Bill Gates, the principal founder of Microsoft Corporation, who is the second-richest man in the world with $92.9 billion. Warren Buffet, one of the most successful investors in the world, trailed in the third place with a total of a wealth of $82.2 billion.

World Refugee Day, international observance observed June 20 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. On 4 December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 55/76 decided that, from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. UNHCR host World Refugee Day events in order to draw the public’s attention.

The ICICI Bank board has appointed ICICI Prudential Life Insurance CEO Sandeep Bakhshi as whole-time director and chief operating officer (COO). It is a new top position at India’s second largest private bank, to steer all its businesses. Chanda Kochhar, ICICI Bank’s managing director and CEO will remain on leave until a committee investigating allegations of impropriety completes its work.

Jammu & Kashmir’s Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation to the Governor after BJP announced to pull out of an alliance with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The reason for the pullout was failure to control the situation in the state and meet its promises. BJP’s General Secretary Ram Madhav also called for Governor’s rule in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Union government is planning to expand its BPO promotion scheme under the Digital India initiative. The government has proposed to more than double the number of seats under the scheme. The India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS), envisaged under Digital India Programme, seeks to incentivize establishment of 48,300 seats in respect of BPO/ITES operations across the country.

The seven lakes that provide water to Mumbai are reportedly 14.87% full, which means they have water only for 56 days. However, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said the corporation does not plan to announce water cuts as of now. Mumbai requires 4,200 million litres of water daily (MLD), of which the BMC supplies 3,800 MLD.

Pakistan, with 140-150 nuclear warheads, is ahead of India which has 130-140 warheads, according to a report by global think-tank SIPRI. “India and Pakistan are both expanding their nuclear weapon stockpiles as well as developing new land-, sea- and air-based missile delivery systems,” the report stated. Meanwhile, US and Russia are on top with 6,450 and 6,850 warheads, respectively.
